Introduction

When it comes to smoothing wrinkles and achieving a refreshed look, three names dominate the conversation: Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin. Each of these FDA-approved injectables works by relaxing facial muscles, reducing the appearance of lines and preventing new ones from forming. But with subtle differences in formulation, spread, and longevity, the right choice depends on your unique goals, anatomy, and lifestyle.

At Medicus Aesthetics in Jupiter, FL, our team specializes in advanced cosmetic injectables. This guide breaks down the science, benefits, and distinctions between Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin—so you can feel confident in your choice.

What Are Neurotoxins?

Neurotoxins are purified proteins that temporarily block nerve signals to targeted muscles. The result: a smoother surface and softened expression lines. They are most commonly used for areas such as crow’s feet, frown lines, and forehead creases, but also have therapeutic applications for migraines, excessive sweating, and jaw clenching.

All three brands—Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin—contain botulinum toxin type A, but their formulation differences lead to distinct treatment outcomes.

Botox: The Pioneer

Botox Cosmetic is the most recognized name in the injectable space. Approved for cosmetic use in 2002, it has decades of safety data and is trusted worldwide. Patients often choose Botox for its proven track record and versatile applications.

  • Best for: Fine lines, forehead wrinkles, crow’s feet, frown lines.
  • Duration: Typically 3–4 months.
  • Highlights: Reliable, predictable results; FDA-approved for multiple cosmetic and medical uses.

Dysport: The Subtle Spreader

Dysport has gained popularity for its ability to diffuse more easily across larger treatment areas. Many patients find it delivers a softer, more natural appearance, especially for forehead lines.

  • Best for: Broad treatment areas, like the forehead or glabella.
  • Onset: Quicker onset—results often appear within 2–3 days.
  • Duration: About 3–4 months.
  • Highlights: Great for patients wanting subtle, natural movement instead of a “frozen” look.

Xeomin: The “Naked” Neurotoxin

Xeomin is unique because it contains only the active botulinum toxin without accessory proteins. This “naked” formulation may reduce the chance of developing resistance over time.

  • Best for: Patients who have developed resistance to Botox or Dysport.
  • Duration: 3–4 months.
  • Highlights: Pure formulation, excellent safety profile, ideal for long-term maintenance.

Who Is the Right Candidate?

Most healthy adults seeking wrinkle reduction are good candidates. However, the choice between Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin depends on:

  • Desired look: Frozen vs. natural movement.
  • Treatment area: Small vs. large zones.
  • Past experience: Any resistance to prior treatments.
  • Lifestyle: Frequency of maintenance and preference for onset speed.

Treatment Experience & Results

The treatment process is quick and virtually painless, typically taking less than 20 minutes. Results become noticeable within days and last for several months, depending on the product. Patients can resume normal activities immediately, though strenuous exercise should be avoided for 24 hours.

Safety, Risks & Side Effects

All three products are FDA-approved and considered safe when administered by licensed providers. Common side effects include minor redness, swelling, or bruising at the injection site. Rare risks include drooping eyelids or uneven results, which highlight the importance of choosing an experienced injector.

FAQs

Is there a difference in cost between Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin?

Costs are comparable, though pricing may vary based on dosage and provider. We recommend exploring our membership options for exclusive savings.

Can I combine neurotoxins with other treatments?

Yes. Many patients combine injectables with PRP therapy, IV hydration, or laser treatments for comprehensive rejuvenation.

What if I want to stop treatments?

Your skin will simply return to its natural aging process. Stopping neurotoxins does not worsen wrinkles—it only means lines may gradually reappear.

Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin are all effective, safe choices for wrinkle relaxation, each with its own strengths. The right choice depends on your anatomy, goals, and past treatment history. At Medicus Aesthetics, we customize every plan to your needs, ensuring natural results that boost confidence.
